Dolce & Gabbana recently wrapped up Alta Moda 2022 and what an event it was. The four-day celebration marked the tenth anniversary of sartorial splendor and opulence. Featuring a bevy of the well-connected and famous, Alta Moda brought drama to an entirely new level.
Domenico Dolce has been quoted as saying that Alta Moda is like a beautiful granita. It was certainly a delightful Italian treat.
Alta Moda Honors Sicilian Women
The event was held at the Piazza Duomo of Siracusa and honored the Sicilian woman. Because these women frequently wore black in days gone by, some of the models were dressed all in black with black veils that covered their faces. The event has been described as an operatic-style homecoming.
Religion and Overstated Beauty
Roman Catholicism is a strong theme with the designers. One model was dressed in a white mini dress with angel sleeves. Her black stockings and black veil contrasted with the blinding whiteness of her dress. Another model wore a black dress with matching long black gloves and again, bright white angel wings. Some of the dresses bore large, rhinestone crosses.
The Dolce & Gabbana look has always been about overstated beauty. One model wore a long pink gown covered with pink fabric roses. Another model wore an oversized red coat of ruffled silk over a sheer black dress. Her face was modestly covered by a sheer black veil. Other models were dressed in gold.
Celebrities Are a Constant at Alta Moda
From the first, the rich and famous have always attended Alta Moda, and Alta Moda 2022 was no exception. As always, models and famous actresses appeared in D&G designs.
Mariah Carey
Pop diva Mariah Carey wowed the crowd in a form-fitting Dolce & Gabbana custom gown with a plunging neckline. Her dress was made from fabric resembling Sicilian tiles. She wore a large tiara of gold and aquamarine rhinestones on top of her curly mane.
Helen Mirren
Dame Helen Mirren is a regular at the Dolce & Gabbana events. At this year’s celebration, she wore a yellow silk gown with a Sicilian empress embroidered on the bodice. Elaborate headdresses are a must at Alta Moda, and the famous actress wore a yellow rhinestone tiara.
Heidi Klum
Model Heidi Klum has been a fashion superstar since she first appeared on the cover of Sports Illustrated in 1998, so it’s no surprise that she’d attend Alta Moda. The host of America’s Got Talent attended the event wearing a black jumpsuit embellished with multi-colored crystals sewn on in geometric swirls.
She carried a crystal-embellished black handbag and also wore matching crystal earrings. Black heels completed the look.
This may have been the tenth anniversary of the glamorous event, but there’s no indication that Dolce & Gabbana will be slowing down anytime soon. Expect to see more famous faces and beautiful designs for years to come.
