As a mom, you do everything which is in your child’s interest. You take care of your child’s overall health, including dental health. But are you wondering that does your child need braces? According to the findings of the American Association of Orthodontics, approximately 4.5 million people wear braces. The majority of them are kids and teenagers. So it’s not a big deal if your kid is one of them. Braces for underbite and other bite problems is an effective and permanent cure.

With your paediatric dentist’s help, you can check that the growth of the jaw and teeth of your kid is normal or not. An early detected issue can be treated more efficiently and effectively. Following are the 6 common symptoms of underbite teeth or any other bite problem in a kid.

  1. Not Losing Baby Teeth Timely

Your child needs to lose the baby teeth timely. Losing them before time will disturb the positioning of upcoming teeth. On the contrary, losing baby teeth late can cause misalignment of teeth and jaw.

Be aware of the timeline of falling of baby teeth. So, you can check if it is happening too soon or too late.

  1. Extended Habit of Thumb Sucking

Due to prolonged thumb sucking, a kid’s teeth get misaligned. The front teeth stand out, and the bottom ones get crowded. Thumb sucking in kids is expected till the age of 2-4 years. After this age, the permanent teeth start to come out.

If your kid is a thumb-sucking baby beyond the age of 2-4 years, then he or she might be a candidate for braces treatment.

  1. Unusual Bite

Any abnormality in the look and shape of the closed jaw indicates an unusual bite problem in your child. There are 4 types of bite problems. They are overbite, crossbite, open bite, and underbite teeth.

If the upper and lower front teeth are mismatched when the jaw is closed, your child suffers from an abnormal bite. Your Orthodontist can detect the issue and suggest a cure. However, there is nothing much to worry about. Braces for underbite and other bite problems are readily available.

  1. Crowded teeth

Crowded teeth are one of the most obvious signs that your child needs braces. Crowded teeth ultimately lead to crocked teeth because there is not much space for all the teeth to grow. Crowding needs to be treated by an orthodontist at an early age.

You can’t clean crowded teeth properly due to space issues. As a result, plaque gets accumulated between them. It causes severe oral health issues from bad breath to bone loss of the affected and surrounding teeth.

  1. Noises from Jaw

Take your kids to the dentist if they complain of strange clicking noises coming out of their jaws. It can be a sign of TMD. It’s a painful jaw disorder that is treated with braces.

  1. Breathing from Mouth

A child breathes from the mouth when it is uncomfortable breathing from the nose. It might be because of tonsils, jaw disposition, or nasal blockage. But this habit can cause an imbalance in facial muscles, which needs to be corrected through braces.

Wrapping Up!

There is no need to worry if you are an aware and alert parent. Keep an eye on the symptoms mentioned above. It will help if you visit an Orthodontist on the first sign of a problem. The treatment for underbite teeth or other bite abnormalities should start by the age of 7 or earlier. Your Orthodontist will be the correct person to tell you that braces are required for your child or not.
