Fonts come in thousands of types. From modern fonts to chic handwritten. A font determines how writing is designed in visual communication. It ensures recognisability for your blog. We use a number of fixed fonts when designing a corporate identity. This font matches the style and character of your blog. But how do you choose the right font?

Serif, san-serif and script

There are different types of fonts. You have serif and san-serif fonts. Serif fonts have a serif, or creatively designed ends of letters. This can be, for example, dashes, rounded lines or curls. San-serif have no writing. Another category is the script font. These are fonts that give a loose atmosphere to your design. There are different types of script fonts, such as brush letters, handwritten fonts and calligraphy letters. Fonts are often released in multiple variants, such as italics, bold or medium. These are called font families.

Look and Feel

Generally, serif fonts are seen as classic, traditional and chic, and san-serif fonts are more modern and sleek. Script fonts, on the other hand, are often seen as elegant, creative and friendly. When choosing a font, it is therefore important if you are aware of what you want to radiate as a blogger. A combination of both fonts is also possible. Well-chosen fonts can have a positive effect on the branding of your blog. Keep in mind that readability is paramount! There are websites that offer free fonts such as fontbundles.

Modern and clean or quirky

Above is an example where you can see a font can make a huge difference. The first one is the Angelina caligraphy font modern and clean. The second font is Mango Sticky a handwritten quirky font with a more playful attitude.

Choose a font that will last a long time

When choosing a font, you have to take into account what your blog wants to radiate. Based on that, you can choose a san-serif, serif or script font. Your logo is not something you will renew every year. It must be designed to last for years and remain relevant. So choose a sustainable design. If you keep up with the latest trends, chances are your logo will be dated within a few years. For example, the retro trend is now rampant. If you go along with this, chances are that your logo will no longer be retro, but old-fashioned within five years.

Link your logo with your story

Your logo and font should tell your story. When a reader first sees your logo, they should see the link between the services you offer and your logo. For example, Apple has responded nicely to this by choosing an apple with a ‘byte’ as its logo. That is why it is important that you choose a personalized logo. Look beyond your computer’s standard font library. There are thousands of fonts available today, both paid and free. Whichever alternative to 1001 Fonts you choose make sure the font you contains everything you need.

Keep it simple

A simple logo is easy for you and for your readers. When you choose a complicated logo, it becomes difficult to reproduce it. A complicated logo is also not good to impress potential readers and clients. It is more difficult for them to remember this. Please note that you do not make your logo too simple, so it quickly becomes boring.

The right color

With the right colors, people will recognize your blog. Color is extremely important for your brand identity. According to researchers, it can give up to 80% more brand recognition if the colors are applied correctly. The chosen color or colors must distinguish your blog, help to radiate the right image and not unimportant: they make the right connection with your brand values.

What works and what doesn’t work?

Which colors do or do not work differs per target group. And of course also per blog. Every blog has its own message and its own values. And even if the message and values are similar to those of the competitor, they may want to reach a completely different target group. Or vice versa. Either way, you should keep all of this in mind as you go about choosing the colors.

Make your logo stand out

People are visually oriented. Communication is not only with words, but also through images and especially color. Colors influence our mood and feelings. This can lead to certain actions, such as making sales decisions. Take an example at most fast food restaurants. The one with that big M isn’t alone in using the colors red and yellow. In addition to the fact that these colors stand out in the street scene, they also encourage a certain action.
