There was no better way to wrap up Asian American and Pacific Islander Heritage Month than with the Gold Gala. Gold House partnered with Meta to present the inaugural event, celebrating the A100 and igniting the theme of the “New Gold Age” defying violence and racism toward APIs. The Gala featured Asian couture attire custom-designed by Dolce & Gabbana.
The Gold Gala A100 List
The A100 list honors the APIs that had the most impact on culture and society over the last year as individuals, groups, or legends. Among the list are actor Jason Momoa, MLB player Shohei Ohanti, and author Min Jin Lee. Each is halfway to the hall of fame where they could potentially join other legendary APIs such as Dwayne Johnson, Daniel Dae Kim, or Radhika Jones. The hall of fame is for those APIs that have made the A100 list more than once by continuing to defy the odds society has placed on their culture.
Awards, heartfelt speeches, and special announcements were embraced throughout the Gala. API and CEO of Google, Sundar Pichai, developed an inspiring and motivational video featuring the A100 honorees to support Google’s efforts in representing APIs. Likewise, Proctor and Gamble showcased their presentation signified as “The Name” to help alleviate violence and racism by elevating awareness to respect the importance and meaning of API heritage located within their names.
At the event and afterparty, cross-industry excellence was shared throughout with a bar hosted by Hennessy X.O and a Spotify playlist highlighting API artists. The Gala and afterparty were held at the Vibiana in downtown Los Angeles where Vanessa Yao, Ludi Lin, and Tzi Ma donned their golden Dolce & Gabbana regalia; they were like gold wrapped in gold, shining throughout the event.
