Hey mamas! Mother’s Day is just around the corner, and if you’re anything like me, you’re looking for something that says ‘I’m a gourmet goddess’ without actually spending twelve hours in the kitchen. Enter: the edible canvas cheeseboard that’s going viral. Today, we’re taking it to a whole new level by using an actual standing canvas board and easel to create a stunning beetroot and caviar masterpiece. It’s artistic, it’s vibrant, and it’s basically a gallery-worthy painting you can eat with crackers.

The Art of the Edible Canvas Cheese Board

Why use a boring flat board when you can turn your kitchen into a professional art studio? By using a standing white canvas board and a wooden easel, you create a dramatic centerpiece that will have everyone reaching for their phones before they reach for a cracker. The stark white background of the canvas makes the colors of your ‘edible paints’ pop like never before.

Why Beetroot and Caviar?

The natural pigment from beetroot creates the most gorgeous, vibrant pink swirls that just scream ‘Mother’s Day.’ When paired with the salty, luxurious ‘pop’ of caviar, it balances the earthy sweetness of the beets and the tanginess of the cheese perfectly. It’s a true masterpiece for the eyes and the palate. It’s also healthy great for kids and adults.

How to Make the Ultimate Mother’s Day Masterpiece

Ready to channel your inner Picasso? Here is my updated step-by-step guide to creating this edible art piece on an actual white easel setup.

1. Prep Your Standing Canvas

Start with a clean white painting canvas board. You must protect the surface and make it food-safe. Wrap the entire canvas tightly in high-quality plastic wrap. Ensure the plastic is smooth and free of large wrinkles. Place your wrapped canvas on a sturdy wooden easel. This setup creates a professional art studio environment in your kitchen.

2. Whip the Base

In a bowl, whip 8oz of softened cream cheese and 4oz of goat cheese together until light and fluffy. Using a small palette knife or a spoon, spread the mixture onto your white plastic-wrapped canvas. Since the canvas is vertical, make sure the cheese is thick enough to hold its shape but not so heavy that it slides!

3. Paint with Beetroot

Take small spoonfuls of roasted beetroot purée (blended with a bit of olive oil and salt) and dot them across your white cheese canvas. Swirl the purée into the cheese to create ‘marble’ effects and abstract ‘swooshes.’

4. The Finishing Touches

Carefully place dollops of caviar onto the swirled surface. The black pearls against the pink beetroot and white cheese create a stunning visual contrast. Scatter fresh dill sprigs and edible flowers over the board for a garden-like feel. Finish with a light dusting of flaky sea salt.

FAQ: edible canvas cheese board

Is a regular white painting canvas food safe?
A standard white painting canvas is not food-safe on its own. However, you can make it safe by wrapping it tightly and smoothly in high-quality plastic wrap before applying any food.

Will the cheese and caviar slide off a vertical canvas?
If your cheese is well-whipped and you avoid using too many heavy or ‘wet’ toppings, it should stay perfectly in place. The cream cheese/goat cheese blend acts as a natural ‘glue’ for the caviar pearls.

What is an edible canvas?
An edible canvas is a creative food presentation style where a creamy base is spread on a board or canvas and decorated with colorful purées and garnishes to look like a piece of art.
