Teaching your child can be a tedious task. And the most complex aspect is making sure that they truly find interest in the subject material being taught to them.

So, if you are looking for fun ways to teach your child about the solar system, then this article is a complete guide for enabling your child to learn in a not-so-boring but fun way.

Quick Tip To begin:

Just like any other subject, begin with the very basics of the solar system.

Explaining the names and positions of the planets, mentioning the existence of the other seven planets as well the presence of the moon and also the Sun.

That being said,

Let’s look at the ways you can effectively and compelling impart the knowledge of the solar system to your child,

CREDIBILITY OF THE SOURCE

The first thing you need to check is that the source you have taken under consideration for building the series of lessons or study material for your child to gain the required knowledge on the solar system is indeed reliable and doesn’t lack accuracy.

If unknowingly you have used an unreliable source for teaching certain facts about the solar system, then not only it will be a waste of time but can also be difficult for the child to unlearn the information in the first place.

FOLLOW A PATTERN

You should prefer teaching them about the planets which are closest to the sun, which is Mercury and so on.

Why?

It has been proven time and again that the children who are taught anything in an order are better at memorizing the fact presented to them just like you taught them the alphabet

DIGITAL LEARNING IS THE NEW NORMAL

Most of the children are naturally drawn towards the pictures of the sun, stars, moon, and planets which adds to their curiosity about the possibility of other planets that might have life.

Hence, using a book with illustrations, videos, crafts will without any doubt be a great method of introducing your child to the concept and details pertaining to the solar system, regular lessons in such a way will help in easier assimilation of advanced concepts.

In today’s time, the old-school way of learning from books might not be as effective for all children as studying material from a video as it tends to garner the attention of the children right away.

So, when it comes to the context of the solar system, you can choose from numerous videos available online on the planets, sun, moon, and stars.

LEARNING TO THE RHYTHM

Ask your child to sing their current favourite song and you will notice how they have the lyrics learned on the tip of their fingers.

Thus, another excellent strategy for teaching about the solar system is by browsing the net and selecting a song on the solar system to completely engage your children in the process of learning about the solar system.

And again, it goes without stating that the video you will choose need to be carefully checked by you as there should not be any room for inaccurate facts and neither the mention of any inappropriate words before you play the song for your child.

ART AND CRAFT

Besides the above-mentioned suggestions, indulging your child in a different set of activities which will include coloring the planet, placing the planets in order can truly be insightful, which can be done by making solar system projects.

AGE-SUITABLE TASKS

The age of the child should be one of the determiners when tailoring the learning pattern for your child.

Easier activities for children who are younger can involve learning to associate the letter M on a moon by writing it on a worksheet.

If your child is older, then the challenging activities can revolve around projects that include creating a large model of the solar system.

Using Flashcards for learning the name of planets or the correct order of planets can immerse your child in the learning process of the solar system as he/she will want to gain more points with each answer they will give.

TESTING THE KNOWLEDGE

Now that you have applied these enlightening methods into use, at the very end of your lesson it’s crucial for you to test or quiz the competency of your child, whether they truly grasped the concept or not.

Children who are still at the early stage of their schooling can be tested by asking them to label basic aspects such as the name of the picture being shown to them.

Is it Earth? Sun? Or the Moon?

As for the children who are older can be tested on their knowledge of putting the planets in correct order after giving adequate time to get through the study material

For confirming that your child remembers the knowledge, assign them the task to create a song, story, model, or report on what they have learned so far.

SUMMING UP,

Remember to make the learning journey of your child both informative and interesting because if they find any aspect of the lesson monotonous then they will easily lose attention.

So, avail these suggestions and get them more intrigued in learning details associated with the solar system.
