Many new moms say that stretch marks are like a symbol of honor. You may or may not agree with this archaic point of view but the fact is that many moms consider this to be an eyesore. It is a known fact that almost 50% of the pregnant women get small skin streaks in the abdomen region that is medically known as stretch marks. The topical creams and OTC creams are not very effective really. But here are some tips which are definitely worth a try.

stretch marks, pregnant

1) Prenatal belly massage

The best kind of treatment for stretch marks is prevention. There is no guarantee that you will never get it but one reduces the severity of the stretch marks. As soon as the body starts to grow during pregnancy, start massaging it with a body oil at least two times a day. this helps to prepare the skin to cope with the trauma of stretching.

2) Use retinol creams

The different retinoid-based products are guaranteed to improve the appearance of the stretch marks to a great extent. The ingredient in these creams are derived from vitamin A and are commonly used in the treatment of acne. Consult a dermatologist and he/she will recommend a high-dose formulation for you. However, you cannot use them during pregnancy. It is actually used to treat stretch marks that are already there.

3) Simply cover it up

If you are self-conscious and cannot wear a low-cut dress for the stretch marks then you can think of getting a cover-up. Cosmetic corrector sticks are available in varying shades that will work with your skin tone to conceal the stretch lines.

4) Laser treatment

If you are hell-bent on getting rid of those stretch marks then you can seriously consider laser treatments. However, such treatments can peg you back by a minimum of USD 500 per session. But before signing up for these treatments, you should wait for at least 6 months as the lines may fade naturally as the body recovers from pregnancy.

5) Belly butter

If you are buying stretch mark reducing products from the market then look for body lotions that have almond/jojoba oil/beeswax/shea butter or a combination thereof as they nourish the skin naturally. Apply the cream at least once a day preferably after a shower.

If you find that your stretch marks are very stubborn in nature and refuses to go then simply carry your stretch marks with a bit of pride. After all, it is proof of all the hard work that your body went through to bring the little one into this world.
