Giving birth is not a race and if your baby shows no sign of fatigue, you should resist the temptation to rush nature and cause a cascade of interventions often leading to a c-section in one third of the births in North America!

Here are some simple steps to prepare yourself for a healthy pregnancy and a natural birth:

  1.  Prepare your body: Before your labor starts, you want to get your body as healthy as possible. Eat well, exercise, rest, and drink water. 2). Be smart about your pregnancy: Make an appointment with your midwife to discuss your options, as they will be able to help you see which birth method is best for you. 3). Have your partner ready: When it comes time to give birth, your partner will most likely be your most consistent source of comfort. Encourage them to listen, be calm, and handle any unexpected circumstances as best as they can. 4). Know your options: A midwife can help with all of this, but you and your partner should know how to stay calm and focused during labor as well. 5). Keep moving: If your labor slows down, you know that your body has slowed down as well. When things get tough, keep moving- go for a walk, dance, or read a book. 6) Respect nature and be patient.
