Having children brings big changes. Not only do you have to organize your life differently as a parent, you may also have to adjust your home. A children’s room is of course indispensable, but a playroom is also a great added value for slightly older children.

The benefits of a playroom

Lots of play is important for young children. In this way they develop their skills and they can give free rein to their imagination. But of course you don’t want to trip over the dolls and toy cars in your kitchen. A separate playroom offers solace. As a child there is nothing more fun than to let yourself go in an environment where that is really allowed. And where you don’t run the risk of vandalizing daddy’s vinyl collection.

Decorating a playroom: our tips

No inspiration for the design of your playroom or nursery? How about these ideas? Try these free playroom printables, the perfect wall décor for your kids. Do you love witty quotes or perhaps an educational solar system poster so you can teach your kids something new!

A floor in wood or vinyl is ideal for a child’s room. Not only can you easily clean it, it is also warm enough to play while sitting. Do you prefer it a little softer? Then lay a carpet with a nice pattern.

Opt for second-hand stuff that you provide with a lick of paint. If something breaks, it is less of a problem than with expensive, new material. Install a nice eye-catcher in the room. How about a large tree or a mushroom in wood.

Children love to draw and color. Therefore, paint a wall with chalkboard paint, on which they can express themselves creatively. Also provide a wall to hang their children’s drawings.

Avoid lose cables

Be sure to provide enough storage boxes for all toys. To keep it safe, it is best to avoid loose cables. Expensive electronic items such as a TV are unnecessary in a playroom anyway. Are electricity cables unavoidable after all? Then carefully remove them. Avoid white. This color does not combine well with dirty children’s hands.

Themed room

Don’t make the playroom a themed room, because hypes and fads come and go. If dinosaurs are popular one year, knights or pirates the next. With a neutral decor, the playroom does not become dated as quickly.
