Did you know that the average corporate job post results in about 250 resumes getting sent to the company that put it up? That’s obviously a lot of resumes for a company to go through.

If you want to make sure that your resume stands out, you should limit it to just a single page. You should also fill it with more than enough relevant work experience.

And maybe most importantly, you should stick a strong resume summary at the top that really sells you as a good fit for a position. Here are five resume summary tips that should help you pull this off.

1. Keep It Short and Sweet

Some people get carried away when they’re putting together resume summaries. You should try not to do this by reminding yourself that it should be a summary of your resume, not a complete breakdown of it.

A resume summary should only be two or three sentences at most. If you make it any longer than that, companies aren’t going to take the time to read it.

2. Make It as Specific as Possible

Far too many people make the mistake of making their resume summaries very generic. Some will even go as far as to recycle the same resume summary over and over again.

Don’t do this. You should create a new resume summary for each job that you apply for. You should make it as specific as you can so that a company can tell that you wrote it for them. Of all the resume summary tips listed here, this one may just be the most important.

3. Use the Right Adjectives

One way to spice up a resume summary without making it too long is by using lots of adjectives in it when describing both yourself and your previous work experience. You should think long and hard about which adjectives you’re going to use.

You don’t want to use any adjectives that companies will have to look up to learn their meanings. But you should put some serious thought into which adjectives you’re going to use.

4. Sound as Enthusiastic as You Can

When someone gets done reading your resume summary, they should get the impression that you’re excited about working for a company. Your enthusiasm should jump off the page.

Ask a family member or friend to read your resume summary and tell you if it sounds enthusiastic enough. If it doesn’t, you should seek to change that right away.

5. Tweak It Over Time

You can keep a lot of the same basic information in your resume summary over time. But you should tweak it every so often so that you can add your latest work experience to the mix.

This online resume builder will make it super easy for you to do this.

Put These Resume Summary Tips to Good Use

When you create a resume, you want it to wow people. But it isn’t going to do that if you don’t have a great resume summary.
