The line opened in 1930 and connects St Moritz with Zermatt in eight hours. Excellence Class
Apart from the 1st and 2nd class, the authorities have introduced a new ticket called EXCELLENCE CLASS. Believe it or not, the grandeur begins right from the train station where you are given a red carpet welcome and you will be ushered to a very wide leather seat with your own iPad and a little table where you can work(if you at all intend to do so!). The design of the seat is impeccable and there is a button for more lumbar support.
The iPad was there not only for your entertainment as an interactive map of the journey will lit up as soon as the train starts. It will highlight the main attractions like the Gotthard Tunnel and the Landwasser Viaduct.
Glacier Express meals
The meal will be served right to your table which spreads over five courses and stretches for two and a half hours. Each dish tastes delicious and you will also be served sparkling Swiss wine. In case you need more wines you can always walk to the bar which is situated at the head of the train. Lest we forget, there is an elegantly carved wood compass in the ceiling of the passenger area which quietly rotates to denote the actual direction of the train!
During the course of the rest of the journey, you will also be served a tea menu and a chance to get off near Andermatt to take some beautiful photos of the surroundings. You are treated like a Royal in this class and would never want the journey to end. Perfect for a luxury family vacation break.
