I wasn’t actually looking for a mug.

I was looking for a little gift for my friend Lisa, which somehow turned into me sitting on the couch with way too many tabs open and absolutely no idea what I was going to buy.

This happens to me every time.

You’d think shopping for someone you’ve known for years would be easier. Sometimes I think it actually makes it harder because you don’t want to buy them something that feels completely random.

Anyway, Lisa has three kids and spends a lot of time in the kitchen. She cooks, she bakes cakes and cookies, and there always seems to be something sitting on her counter waiting to cool.

She also has a stand mixer that basically lives on her kitchen counter.

So when I saw this mug with a mixer on it, I stopped.

It wasn’t one of those huge “THIS IS THE PERFECT GIFT!” moments.

It was more like…

Oh, that’s Lisa.

Then I realized I could put her name on it.

And that was pretty much it.

I bought the mug.

The Mixer Was Actually Why I Picked It

I have mixed feelings about personalized gifts.

Some of them are really sweet.

And then sometimes it feels like the internet has decided that absolutely everything needs somebody’s name printed on it.

I am fairly certain that if I searched long enough, I could probably find a personalized toilet plunger.

Actually, please don’t tell me if those exist.

The thing I liked about this mug was that the personalization wasn’t really the reason I noticed it.

It was the mixer.

Lisa actually owns one. It sits right there on her counter, so the design reminded me of her before I even noticed the custom name option.

That made the personalization feel more like a nice extra instead of the whole point of the gift.

I typed Lisa into the little personalization box.

Then checked it.

Checked it again.

And yes, I realize Lisa is four letters long.

Personalized things make me nervous. Once you’ve managed to misspell someone’s name on something permanent, there really isn’t anywhere to hide.

Fortunately I managed to spell Lisa correctly. Huge accomplishment for the day.

About the Mug Itself

It’s a ceramic coffee mug with a glossy finish and a colorful baking design wrapped around it.

The stand mixer is the main thing you notice, along with some smaller baking details.

It’s definitely a baking mug.

Meaning, if the person you’re buying for hates being in the kitchen, maybe keep scrolling.

There are two sizes available, 11 oz and 15 oz.

I didn’t overthink the size too much. I wanted something that felt like a normal everyday coffee mug and not a small flower pot with a handle.

Although, now that I think about it, Lisa probably wouldn’t complain about more coffee.

The mug is microwave and dishwasher safe too.

That sounds like a boring detail until you remember that Lisa has three kids.

I am not giving a mother of three a coffee mug that comes with hand-washing instructions.

That would be less of a gift and more of a chore.

Ordering It Was the Easy Part

The ordering process on LovoraGift was pretty uneventful.

Which is good.

I chose the mug, entered Lisa’s name, checked everything one more time because apparently I don’t trust myself, and placed the order.

There wasn’t anything confusing about the personalization.

The waiting afterward was another story.

I Was Not Particularly Patient About the Shipping

Here’s the part I liked less.

Because the mug is personalized, it needs to be printed first. That takes around 2–3 business days.

Then shipping takes another 5–7 business days.

I knew this when I ordered.

The website wasn’t hiding it from me.

I would still like to complain about it a little.

Because somehow when you order something online, knowing that it will take several days does absolutely nothing to stop you from wondering why it isn’t already at your house.

I checked the tracking.

Nothing interesting.

I checked again later.

Still nothing interesting.

At one point I think I refreshed the tracking page as if the package might sense that I was watching and feel pressured to hurry up.

It did not.

So, yes.

If you’re ordering this for an actual birthday, please order it early.

Don’t be me.

Give yourself enough time that you’re not staring at tracking updates and mentally calculating how many business days are left.

I understand that personalized products aren’t sitting on a shelf ready to ship, and obviously somebody has to actually print the thing.

Still.

I’m impatient.

Both things can be true.

What I Really Liked About It

The more I thought about it, the thing I liked wasn’t really that the mug was personalized.

It was that it reminded me of Lisa before I added her name.

That’s probably the difference between a personalized gift feeling thoughtful and feeling like you just typed someone’s name onto a random object.

Lisa bakes.

She has the mixer.

She drinks coffee.

Then her name is on the mug too.

It all kind of fits together.

And I like gifts like that.

They don’t have to be expensive or dramatic. Sometimes it’s enough to look at something and immediately know who you would give it to.

And Yes, It’s Still Just a Coffee Mug

I mean that affectionately.

We sometimes put way too much pressure on ourselves to find some incredible gift that the person will remember for the next twenty years.

This probably isn’t that.

It’s a mug.

She’s going to put coffee in it.

At some point one of her kids will probably leave it somewhere it doesn’t belong.

That’s life.

But it’s her mug.

It has something on it she loves and her name is right there in the design.

I actually prefer that to buying something fancy that has absolutely nothing to do with the person.

The One Thing I’d Change

Easy.

Faster shipping.

If LovoraGift magically offered me a button that said:

“Would you like Lisa’s mug tomorrow?”

I would have hit that button very enthusiastically.

The 2–3 days for printing plus another 5–7 days in shipping isn’t outrageous for something personalized, but it definitely doesn’t feel fast when you’re the person waiting for it.

Next time I’ll order earlier.

At least that’s what I’m telling myself.

I have a long history of saying this and then continuing to buy gifts later than I should.

Would I Buy One Again?

Yeah, probably.

Not this exact mug for everybody, obviously.

I’m not going to slowly replace every coffee mug in my friends’ homes with stand mixers and their names.

But I would buy another personalized gift if I found a design that immediately reminded me of somebody.

That’s really how I think these work best.

Don’t start with:

“I need to buy a personalized product.”

Start with the person.

What do they actually like?

What do they do all the time?

What little thing immediately makes you think of them?

Then personalization makes sense.

For Lisa, it was baking.

More specifically, that mixer that’s been living on her kitchen counter forever.

Anyway, That’s My Very Long Story About a Coffee Mug

I planned to write a quick little post about the mug.

Apparently I had more opinions about coffee mugs and shipping than I realized.

If you have a baker in your life, though, I do think this one is cute. Especially if they’re one of those people who always has flour somewhere on their shirt and claims they were “just making something really quick.”

You know the person.

If you’d like to see the same personalized baking mug I bought for Lisa, you can find it here:

And before anyone asks — no, I don’t get a commission if you buy one.

Sadly, LovoraGift is not funding my retirement one coffee mug at a time.

I just bought one, thought it was cute, complained about waiting for it, and ended up writing an entire blog post about it.

Which, honestly, is a pretty accurate summary of how this blog has worked for years.
